Mauritius is a volcanic island situated roughly 2400 km off the southeastern coastline of Africa on the Indian Ocean side. The island covers a land mass of 720 sq miles or 1,865 sq kilometers. Most of this beautiful island is surrounded by coral reefs excepting for the southern part. Holiday makers will find that there are basically two seasons. These are the hot season from November through to April, and the warm season from May through to October. The average daytime temperature is 25 degrees C (or 75 degrees F) while the temperature at nighttime will rarely go below 13 degrees C (or 62 degrees F). There are many attractions to be found when visitors take their holidays to Mauritius. The island has some pretty odd sites, including the dunes at Chamarel which have seven colours. This is thought to be from the slow weathering of the volcanic rock. This rolling and colourfully contrasted layering of the earth can be found near the lovely Chameral waterfalls. Domaine Les Pailles is a nature park that can be found ten minutes southwards of Port-Louis. The nature park stretches more than three thousand acres across the base of the Moka Mountains. When visitors [...]

The island nation of Mauritius, located in the Indian Ocean, is a beautiful nation with some of the most beautiful scenery to be found in the world. When you plan your holidays to Mauritius, you will find there is plenty to do and see. It is truly a place the whole family will enjoy. Here we recommend places that you need to see during your stay. Port Louis The capital of Mauritius is unique with its rich blend of cultures and traditions. You will find cinemas, shopping, pubs, arcades and casinos here, making it a great playground for every age. The Natural History Museum is a big hit with families where you can see a stuffed replica of the long extinct dodo bird, a native of the island nation.
Mauritius Rest Easy Believe it or not it is possible to go camping in Mauritius but for 99 per cent of visitors the big appeal is the island’s collection of luxury hotels. There is plenty of all-inclusive too. Mauritius has a long established reputation for offering the ultimate in hotels and resorts. Combined with a steadfast policy of schedule-one flights, this Indian Ocean hideaway has resisted the mass marketing and gone for quality over quantity with hospitality at the top of agenda. However that does not mean to say that it’s only the rich and famous who relax by the pool, eat gourmet cuisine and indulge in spa treatments, though of course the do! Along with the exclusive five star resorts, there is an enticing range of three and four star properties, a few high-end-all-inclusive, and increasing number of rustic lodges, self-catering villas and bungalows. In the current economic climate, there are many good deals to be had, especially at the top hotels such as room upgrade, free nights and spouse-goes-free offers. Flagship resorts such as One&Only Le Saint Geran, Le Touessrok and the Royal Palm have held the high ground in opulence for many years, though there are many [...]

Mauritius Island Information On the map tiny Mauritius appears as no more than a speck amid the blue eternity of the Indian Ocean, 1,200 miles off the coast of East Africa. But into an area the size of an English county Mauritius packs extravagant, ever-changing contrasts that defy geography. At sea level the landscape is carpeted by the luxuriant green of vast sugar-cane plantations. Against the skyline rise the dramatic purple silhouettes of craggy volcanic mountains, amid which verdant tropical forests, waterfalls, gorges and fast-flowing rivers await exploration. Above all, there’s Mauritius’ long, fretted coastline, fringed by a delicate tracery of waving casuarinas – and 100 miles of exotic, sandy beaches. The bays and coves that line the island’s shores, protected by one of the world’s longest unbroken coral reefs, and the crystal-clear Indian Ocean waters, make Mauritius a superb holiday choice for the beachcomber and watersports enthusiast. Its hospitable welcome is another Mauritius speciality. A melting-pot of races, religions and cultures, the island has in the past welcomed Arabs, Portuguese, Dutch, French, British, Indians, Chinese and Africans. The result? Today’s Mauritians today do not see themselves as any of these – but as just a cosmopolitan island people, living [...]
